Looking for an easy way to make sure you are fast asleep shortly after your head hits the pillow? Try Progressive Muscle Relaxation!

What is Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR)?

PMR is a relaxation technique that involves tensing and gradually releasing each muscle group in your body, starting from your toes and working your way up to your head. This process helps release physical tension and promotes a sense of relaxation.

Steps to Try PMR

  1. Find a quiet and comfortable place to lie down.
  2. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to relax.
  3. Start by tensing the muscles in your toes for about 5-10 seconds, then release them completely.
  4. Move on to the next muscle group (e.g., calves, thighs, etc.), tensing and then relaxing each group in sequence.
  5. Continue until you've worked through all major muscle groups in your body.

This method can help you become more aware of tension in your body and teach you to release it, contributing to a state of relaxation that may facilitate sleep.
