Legumes are a family of plant-based foods that include the edible seed (or pulse). Foods in the legume category include beans, soybeans, peanuts, peas, chickpeas, and lentils, to name a few. Legumes are rich in protein and fiber, as well as other nutrients such as B vitamins and iron.

Tips for adding more legumes to your diet

  • Dips with legumes, such as hummus, are great for snacks
  • Try roasting chickpeas or edamame in the oven or air fryer for a crunchy, savory snack or to top salads
  • Try making a hearty veggie soup with lentils
  • Swap the protein in a wrap for baked tofu
